Onsens are a type of Japanese public bath. You will go to the men’s or women’s side, shower yourself off, and then soak in hot springs. Since you are doing this with a lot of other people, it may feel uncomfortable for some tourists. My favorite onsen so far has been this one. They give you a robe to wear upon entry, there is a all you can eat buffet and dessert bar, and after your soak you can relax in “relaxation rooms” until 3 AM. On a free weekend, we went to Takao mountain. This lesser known mountain to tourists had a nice hike, and a spectacular view at the top. One other interesting thing about Takao Mountain is they have a monkey park, which we stopped by on the way to the top.
